About this work

The Telephone is a public-domain work, here read aloud in a studio AI narration (a new AI performance, not the author’s recorded voice).

Who was Alexander Graham Bell?

Alexander Graham Bell (1847–1922) was a teacher of the deaf before he was an inventor; his mother and his wife were both deaf, and speech transmission was for him a family matter before it was a patent. The telephone, patented in 1876 when he was twenty-nine, made him famous; he considered his work on deaf education the more important.
